ok, so i started watching this show on the science channel (which is an amazing channel) and i am completely addicted to it. it shows you how pretty much everything and anything is made. start to finish. i know, small minds are easily amused. seriously, check it out! it’s called ‘how it’s made’
we had so much fun in columbus at lou and aric’s amazing house. louanne and aric got married in santa barbara in august of 2003. that same weekend i proposed to jackie on the beach in california. we are so blessed to have aric in our family. aric and lou hosted so many people over the holiday and cooked everything. we all brought our separate dishes but the main job was done by aric. he deep fried a turkey. it was the juiciest, most amazing tasting bird. i hope he knows this needs to be done every year. the funny thing is that we had one bird in the oven for like 5 hours and deep frying the turkey only took 45 min! 3 birds altogether, two deep fry, and one oven. also it was my dad’s birthday. happy birthday dad! thanks again for everything guys. love ya

Hi Robby and Jackie-
I am so glad I was able to fly home for Thanksgiving and spend it with you! I love being with you both and Gabriella and Grayson too. Family is the most important thing to me, and it’s so nice to have all of you in my life! I am looking forward to seeing you all at Christmas!
Love,
RoOn another note, if the bride wanted family posed pictures, she should have communicated that to you. Obvioulsy, she didn’t want that. This family member needs to realize that these pictures are not the old fashioned kind. They are a form of art. I think your work is awesome!

A big thanks to Louanne & Aric for hosting such a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was really great to see everyone and Aric, Louanne and Rosanne did a great job with all of the food. Thank goodness for the Food Network!
hope everyone had a great turkey day! we had such a blast and will post more about it after i download some pictures. i am so thankful to have such wonderful family and friends and spending thanksgiving with them really makes me appreciate them more.
on a side note, when i got back in town i received a funny, yet disturbing comment on my blog. it made me laugh but bummed me out at the same time. we have tried so hard to build a successful business and given our clients feedback we have lived up to our standards. our style isn’t for everyone and we don’t think everyone should love what we do but this comment from a ‘photographer/friend’ of a wedding we shot took things to another level. never in my wildest imagination would i think that giving a couple over 1200+ would be a bad thing! anyways, here are the comments. now keep in mind all the ‘blown highlights’ are an effect that we put on our pictures that people really seem to like. but again, not for everyone.
“As a fellow photographer, I give you credit for doing weddings! The liability, lighting and demands are great! You have some great ideas (I like your shots with the rings and shoes). I attended a wedding that you photographed and I have some personal comments on that as well as your samples on your web site. The shots on your web and this “trash your dress” are all blown out. As an attendee of a wedding you shot, there were over 1200 photos to look at with your intent of people purchasing! They had not been proofed by you. Several were out of focus, none appeared to be corrected for lighting (over exposed or under exposed, etc. basic PhotoShop). I’m not expert, but I would at least take time to delete those pictures that are not good and present the ones for sale in the best form I could. I looked at ALL 1200+ because I was immediate family. You should pick the best of your work. Most people are not going to look at 1200 pictures and probably won’t buy any if they have to sort through so many. I feel it’s your job as the professional to sort out the best. I was also disappointed to find that many “traditional” shots were not taken. Many of the bride’s family traveled many miles, or are elderly and the opportunities for everyone to get together is rare. Those pictures were not take…that’s a shame because I did not go there as a photographer, but as a guest and I don’t have any pictures of all family members together for this event. Regardless of how “creative” a photographer you are, remember it is first and foremost a documentation of family history and photos of the union and generations present, future (and unfortunately, soon to be past) should be recorded before you do the rest.”
now i love constructive criticism from professionals and i travel around the country learning from the best but when i get advise from anyone other then professionals i listen and laugh. the funnier thing about the comment is that one of the lovely erika’s trash the dress shots will be a feature in the today’s bride magazine’s next publication. so someone ‘in the business’ likes the pictures!
i try to involve everything in my blog that happens in my personal and business life. so please take my honesty as just being human and speaking how i feel.
here is a before and after of what we do on our photos. i use a few different things in photoshop to create this but as you can see the original is much different then edit.

be well

Reading far back in the blog… my own wedding is coming up in eleven days (ah!)and I’m trying to make sure I hadn’t missed any archived posts.
I just wanted to say that while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, pleasing EVERYONE involved with the family of someone getting married is impossible. Me and my soon to be husband have realized this all too quickly. It is unfortunate that this person was displeased, but in the same token “to each his own”. If the bride and groom were satisfied with their photographs, that is really and truly all that matters. Not everyone can appreciate things that are “un” traditional, and aren’t quite sure of how to think outside of the box. While Rob’s photography style is different, it is also creative and stunning in its own right.

Watchout Neil Pert … Grayson Drago is in the house. You guys just need a bass player?
